Recent Additions to these Pages

*   I have added 15 new letters that had been in Preston Wells' possession. I have given them the suffix of '_pw' in the this Index and a direct path to all by following the next pw link at the end of each pw letter
-->   Go to first pw letter

There are many collections of soldier's letters from the civil war but few that contain the letters from home. This is one and Benjamin Franklin Wells of Fabius, Mich. and his wife Malissa's letters residing in the Beatley History Library of Ann Arbor are another. Both Willie and uncle Ben sent the letters they received back home to be saved giving us this glimpse of the home front. In one of Wm's letters he asks for some that he has sent back be returned. It may have been a family thing.
Thank you all.
